From 27 to 28 November, representatives of the Oslo Red Cross and the Norwegian Correctional Services Directorate visited Latvia.
On the 1st day of the visit the Norwegian delegation together with representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia, the State Probation Service and the Latvian Prison Administration:
- got acquainted with the work of the State Probation Service and the message of the volunteer association "Bona Fide Latvija".
- learnt about the results of the programme implemented by the Latvian Red Cross in Daugavgriva Prison
On the 2nd day of the visit, a technical meeting was organised to discuss training needs and topics.
The aim of the technical meeting was to plan the training content for the beginning of the next year, to define the scope of the Working Group and to identify the most relevant topics, focusing on the staff of the State Probation Service and the Latvian Prison Administration - improving the skills and knowledge of the staff and volunteers of the institutions.
The delegation also visited the non-governmental institution "Nova Vita" and the Saint Lukas Fellowship.
The visit was organized in the framework of the Norwegian financial instrument project “Establishment of Training centre infrastructure and model prison block for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory” implemented by the Latvian Prison Administration.
