From 22 May to 24 May 2023, representatives of the Latvian Prison Administration, together with the Ministry of Justice, participated in the 14th Cooperation Committee meeting of the Norway Grants programme, and discussed the progress of the programme "Correctional Services" project "Establishment of Training centre infrastructure and model prison block for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory".
Within the framework of the Norway Grants 2014-2021 period programme, Latvian Prison Administration implements the project, while the Ministry of Justice acts as a programme manager. The institutions have developed a close cooperation with the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Services, as well as Romerike Prison and the University College of Norwegian Correctional Service. The experience and skills shared by representatives of the correctional services of Norwegian partners help Latvian colleagues to implement goals of the project, ensuring the improvement of the Latvian Prison Administration employees’ training methodology and opportunities for the exchange of experience. Also, Latvia learns knowledge on the construction of Training centre in Olaine, its technical and IT solutions.
This year and in the first trimester of 2024, the most intensive construction works of the new Latvian Prison Administration Training centre will take place, and it is planned that, in 2024, a full capacity training process will be organized in the new centre.
